Welcome to Bump Fitness - Bump Fitness

Welcome to the First Bump Fitness Blog Post!

My name is Phoebe Armfield and as the founder of Bump Fitness, I’m so excited to welcome you not only to our new website, but also to our blog and the community we hope to create in order to keep women up to date on health and fitness information that will support them before, during and after pregnancy. The aim is to clear up any confusion and make simple the overwhelming information that is now at hand for many women.

Who am I?

A little background on myself; I started classical ballet training at the age of 4 at Northern Ballet Studios with Peta Davidson of the Australian Ballet Company on Sydney’s North Shore where I won and placed in many eisteddfods and performed professionally around Sydney. Ballet took me overseas where I trained and danced in Vancouver, Canada.

Upon returning to Australia I took up Powerlifting (a little known fact about me!) and Pole Dancing and it wasn’t long before I started competing in both Powerlifting and Pole Dancing and performing Pole professionally using classical ballet as a heavy influence. In addition to running Bump Fitness as lead Physiotherapist, I am part owner of Rokh Fit Dance Studio on the Gold Coast and am still performing and competing Pole, as well as instructing Pole Fitness and Aerial Yoga.

Why Bump Fitness?

For over 10 years I have been training women in dance fitness and 8 years ago was inspired to complete a Bachelor in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Western Sydney and a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney.

I’ve since followed my passion for working with women and children and have undertaken further education in women’s health, paediatric physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy. I’m also a qualified Clinical Educator with Griffith University and a qualified Pilates Instructor.

In late 2015 I started Bump Fitness to address the growing need for qualified advice that was being sought by active women who wished to safely continue their active lifestyles before, during and after their pregnancies, all the while ensuring the health and safety of both themselves and their baby was at the forefront.

Throughout our website you’ll find information about the wide range of Services we offer (not just for adults but for Kids as well!), as well as Resources to support your consultations, our Timetables where you can find out about upcoming classes and even a Shop filled with a whole bunch of our favourite products designed to support your active, healthy life (we’re still working on the Shop, stay tuned!)

Why a Blog?

While working with active clients I started seeing women returning to sports and exercise years after they had had children and were experiencing issues with pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence and back pain. I have also noticed women in general are completely bombarded with information from doctors and other health professionals, friends and possibly the worst… the Internet. All of this information often leads to distraction, confusion and usually, overwhelm, which is why I wanted to be able to create this space to share and support women with the correct and professional advice.

If you have any questions I’d love for you to reach out via email or by calling the clinic and not only will I endeavour to support you personally through the services we offer at Bump Fitness, but I will also look to answering it in a blog so that everyone in our community can benefit. As a University Clinical Educator I have access to research papers that many health practitioners do not have access to, so you can rest assured you are getting the latest information and best practice possible.

I’m so excited to be able to support and serve this growing community of strong, healthy women and mums, empowered with the correct information about how to remain active and health whilst looking after a new baby. As we go on this journey together I’d love to hear your feedback, comments, experiences or stories that might support anyone else (even myself!) who are following the posts and articles.

Of course, if you find something that you find valuable or that resonates with you, I’d love if you could share it with your friends and family so that we might be able to support more women and mums in being the strongest, healthiest happiest version of themselves!

Until next time!

Phoebe xx
