The simplest feedback device, ideal if you want to confirm that you are activating your pelvic floor correctly.
The Pelvic Floor Educator is the perfect product to teach you how to contract your pelvic floor correctly and effectively. The unique shape of the Pelvic Floor Educator is designed to sit in the vagina and stay in place during use. As you contract your pelvic floor, the deep layer of pelvic floor muscles should shorten and lift. This movement lifts the probe in the vagina and the indicator stick moves downwards towards your tailbone – indicating a correct contraction. If you bear down instead (incorrect pelvic floor muscle action) the stick will lift up and/or the probe will start to slide out if you are bearing down strongly. The external indicator stick amplifies this movement to show whether these muscles are being contracted correctly or not.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Pelvic Floor Educator should sit at the level of the deep layer of pelvic floor muscles, like a tampon. It is the activity of this layer of muscles that the device is measuring and feeding back to you. If you have a mild prolapse you should still be able to use the educator. If you have a significant prolapse (bulging to, or outside of, the entrance to the vagina) then you may not be able to position the educator properly for it to be effective. You can try reducing your prolapse and using the educator lying down with your bottom elevated on pillows, this will give you more chance of getting the body of the educator in position to work properly for you.
The Educator consists of four parts, which click together easily. Full instructions are included. It is easy to care for and is cleaned by washing with soap and water.
The insertable vaginal probe component is approx 6.5 cm long and approx 9cm circumference at its widest point. With both tips attached, the external indicator measures approx 28cm.
The Pelvic Floor Educator has been developed from the award-winning probe Periform and is very popular with physiotherapists as a teaching tool. Insertion of the probe is sometimes made easier by the use of a very small amount of water-based lubricant.
Pelvic Floor Educators are manufactured from medical grade materials but not under sterile conditions and we therefore recommend cleaning before use.
